What do we transcribe for NYC legal teams?
New York City work skews differently from the rest of the state, and three categories dominate what actually arrives in our queue.
Examinations under oath and recorded statements. New York’s no-fault insurance system generates sustained EUO volume, and Brooklyn and Queens practices send us the bulk of it. These are rarely complicated recordings, but they are high-volume, deadline-driven and unforgiving of errors in names, dates of loss and claim numbers.
Construction and Labor Law 240 matters. Scaffold law claims produce recorded site investigations, witness interviews and expert walkthroughs, often with background noise, multiple voices and site-specific terminology that general-purpose transcription handles badly.
Commercial Division deposition video. Complex commercial matters at 60 Centre Street routinely run full days with three or more speakers on the record, counsel objecting over one another, and exhibits referenced by number throughout.
We also transcribe attorney–client and witness interviews, arbitration and mediation sessions, landlord–tenant proceedings, internal investigations, and attorney dictation.
How do you get an errata sheet back on time across five boroughs?
This is the practical New York City problem, and it has less to do with the rule than with geography.
Under CPLR 3116 the witness has sixty days from submission to review the transcript, enter any changes with the reasons for them, and sign before an officer authorised to administer an oath. Sixty days is not the constraint. The handoffs are.
A deposition is taken in Jamaica. Counsel is in Midtown. The witness works in the Bronx and the officer who administered the oath is somewhere else again. Before anything can be signed, the transcript has to reach the witness, the witness has to read it properly, the changes have to come back, and a signing has to be arranged. Every one of those steps is a scheduling problem across a city where a cross-borough trip is an afternoon.
Two things compress it:

- Page and line numbering on every transcript, so a witness marking changes cites a specific line instead of describing a passage, and counsel reviewing those changes can find them without re-reading the deposition.
